SPSS Core Skills

SPSS is used extensively by both academic and corporate researchers as a tool for quickly analysing quantitative data. Our ‘SPSS Core Skills’ course will help you get to grips with the basics of this user-friendly software. You’ll learn how to successfully set-up SPSS data files, run statistical analyses (including graphs), and manipulate files and variables. No statistical knowledge is required for this course as the focus of the session will be on the software rather than statistical theory.

This course is suitable for researchers who are new to SPSS or in need of a refresher.
You will receive exercise files, course notes and a recording of the three sessions.
The course will be presented using SPSS 24 for Windows.

By the end of this course attendees will have a good understanding of how to:

  • Set-up data files effectively to maximise analysis
  • Import data from Microsoft Excel and other sources
  • Manipulate variables (computing new variables and recoding)
  • Calculate descriptive statistics and statistical tests such as t-tests and ANOVAs
  • Work efficiently with large datasets
  • Use SPSS’s programming language (syntax)
  • Work with multiple response data
  • Work with SPSS output and transfer tables/graphs to Microsoft Word.
